Facts and Figures

The Barceloneta facility consists of 102 acres with seven main buildings totaling approximately 600,000 square feet. This is a pharmaceutical and bulk pharmaceutical chemical manufacturing facility initially constructed in 1970.
We manufacture oral suspensions, tablets, and sterile dosage forms for both penicillin and cephalosporin antibiotics, in addition to bulk chemical manufacture of antiviral, cardiovascular, and diagnostic image enhancement drugs.
Approximately 60 percent of the plant employees come from the northwestern region of the island.

Since the enactment of Earth Day (April 22), Barceloneta employees and visiting schools join together to celebrate with numerous reforestation activities around our facility, such as: planting of trees, bushes and gardens on our premises; offering recycling conferences; hand-made paper clinics; and artisan displays of recycled products and goods.

Civic activities supported

Bristol-Myers Squibb Barceloneta sponsors and promotes environmental education of students at neighboring high schools, who visit our facility.
Also during the celebration of Earth Day, these students participate in our plant reforestation project, recycling, and environmental awareness activities.

Environmental Performance

The EHS department at Barceloneta heightens environmental awareness among employees, visitors, and contractors by means of its comprehensive Spanish publication "Bristol-Myers Barceloneta Inc., Una contribución que perdura" (A Lasting Contribution). This educational tool highlights environmental activities, policies, environmental controls, and community relations.

This facility is required to report annually on releases of toxic chemicals to the air, water, and land under Section 313 of the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA). This website contains links to the U.S. government's toxic release inventory (TRI) database.
