  • Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) has further expanded its operations in Ireland through the development of the new manufacturing facility at Cruiserath, Mulhuddart, Dublin. This is a multifunctional, automated bulk pharmaceutical production facility, initially manufacturing medicines for blood pressure and hypertension. Construction commenced in 2000, and manufacturing started during the first quarter 2004.

  • BMS is a recognised leader in the field of Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) and has won numerous awards throughout the world for Sustainability, Safety and Health protection. The company is strongly committed to protecting the Environment and the Health and Safety of its employees, customers, and neighbours.
  • Comprehensive EHS management systems have been put in place to safeguard employees and neighbouring communities. As of August 2006 in excess of 1,000,000 hours were worked by BMS employees without a lost time accident.

  • The site is licensed and audited by the Environmental Protection Agency. This requires the facility to operate within rigorous management and operational controls as well as specified emission limits. The plant is also subject to auditing and inspection by the Health and Safety Authority, to regulate safety, its chemical inventory and have in place contingencies to deal with any possible accident or emergency.
  • Containment, abatement, and waste treatment systems installed at the facility are state-of-the-art, and conform to the highest Safety and Environmental protection standards, including strict controls specified in the Integrated Pollution Control License.

Energy Efficiency at BMS Cruiserath

  • Working with the Swords site, Cruiserath has completed a number of significant initiatives to reduce its energy consumption:
    • In 2006 the site reduced liquid Nitrogen consumption on site by 45%
    • In 2006 the operation of the site’s liquid/gaseous waste thermal treatment unit was optimized to reduce the natural gas required to run the unit by 16%
    • In 2006 the operation of the site’s chiller system was optimized to give a 3% reduction in the sites electricity usage
    • The implementation of a recycle project has meant site energy savings of 10% on gas and 2% on electricity to recover solvent.
